Angel Food Ministry

What is Angel Food Ministries?

Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to communities throughout the United States. Angel Food Ministries works through churches and community organizations in over 32 states, providing food to over 500,000 families. Angel Food Ministries is based in Monroe, Georgia and has been in operation since 1994. For more information, visit www.angelfoodministries.com.

Why is Pleasant Mound-Urban Park getting involved with Angel Food Ministries?

Our church's mission is to “reach out to the community with the love of Jesus Christ and to make disciples of him.” Sometimes spreading the Good News begins with meeting a person’s basic needs – such as providing food. Angel Food Ministries is just one more way we are reaching out to our community and making a powerful difference in thousands of lives.

Who qualifies for Angel Food Ministries?

Everyone qualifies. There are no applications or qualifications to order Angel Food. If you eat, you qualify!

Where does the food come from?

Angel Food Ministries’ food is “restaurant grade” meats, frozen vegetables, fruit, dairy products, grains, desserts, etc. The food is acquired through Angel Food’s involvement with only the best producers and vendors of high quality, “name brand” foods. The food is all the same high quality one would purchase at a grocery store. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe. Angel Food Ministries, in Monroe, Georgia, purchases the Angel Food for the program and then transports it across the country in refrigerated trucks.

How much food do I get?
Angel Food offers several different boxes of food. The “basic unit” is a medium-sized box of food which weighs approximately 20-25 pounds and consists of 16-18 items, including frozen meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, grains and desserts. This “basic unit” can generally assist in feeding a family of four for about a week or a single senior citizen for almost a month. Once you order the “basic unit,” you are then eligible to order one of several “special” boxes of food. “Special” boxes can include several pounds of various meats, full meals, etc. Usually there are three different “special” boxes available each month.

Does Angel Food Ministries really help the needy in our community?

Yes. Angel Food Ministries does help the needy in our community in several ways. First, a person can use Food Stamps to pay for the nutritious food. Second, someone else can buy the food and donate it to a family/person in need. Third, the food is very high-MAR - 2010 Order Form Spanishquality and valued at around $60, even though the food only costs $30. This high-quality, low-cost food stretches a person’s grocery dollars. And finally, during the food distribution there will be an opportunity for prayer requests and fellowship; this will help to meet the needy person’s spiritual needs as well as his/her basic needs.
