Church History
We've been in the Pleasant Grove community for more than 100 years, offering relevant ministry for children, youth, men and women. We are an outgrowth of a worshiping community dating back to 1842. During the Civil War, a one-room log cabin was built on Buckner near the Scyene community to serve as a meeting place for church and a community school.
Between 1876 and 1881, a second church building was built with Rev. J. R. Masters as the preacher and teacher. Father Buckner from the Buckner Orphans Home (now the Buckner Children's Home) attended worship service at Pleasant Mound and brought children to the school. In 1894, the second building was sold and one year later, the new church was built at Bruton Road and Pleasant Drive. The first service in the current location was held May 23, 1954.
In the 21st century, Pleasant Mound continues to serve the Pleasant Grove community as a worship center, educational complex, and community outreach center. Since that day in 1842, our commitment and goal remains the same: partnering with our neighbors to transform the community for Jesus Christ, one family at a time.
To God be the glory!
